Tribal Shorts + Stylish Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday Dolls!

This weekend was truly one for the books. Dr. D threw a major graduation party in Orange County to celebrate his PhD and we all couldn't have been more proud. His family flew in from the East Coast and truly made the entire weekend all about him - as it should be!
The weather in LA has been HOT, HOT, HOT y'all and frankly I'm not a fan of sweating to death the second I step outside so I live in shorts & tanks in the Summer. I bought these shorts for Dr. D's and my trip to Cabo back in April but never actually documented the outfit ... until now!
The second I saw these tribal beauties at a boutique in Santa Monica I knew I had to have them. They're high waisted, which initially made me nervous, but I truly could live in these shorts all day long. The leather waist band adds a great subtle detail
I paired it with my turquoise spike necklace and go to black cut out Aldo wedges. They may be 4 inches tall but they're seriously so comfortable you'd never even know!
Tank: Ann Taylor // Shorts: LUSH // Necklace: Sage K & Co // Earrings: Versona // Bracelets: Lily & Laura // Ring: Steinmart // Wedges: Aldo

What's your favorite trend of the Summer?

Isn't this midi dress darling? I'm completely smitten over the lace detailing on the top and cut out sides! Her cut out brown heels are the perfect brown contrast with the black dress and over-sized sunnies! I always love a good pop of color with a LBD and her green clutch is spot on!

Dr. D Is Graduating!

Happy Monday Babes!

Today is an exceptionally exciting Monday because Dr. D is graduating tonight!

It's been a long 4 years and I can't even declare how proud I am of him finishing his pHd in not only record time, but in a degree as difficult as Chemical and Environmental Engineering! With that being said this post is going to be short and sweet as I'm spending the majority of the day with his family before the graduation festivities start.

Also, THANK YOU to all of the lovely ladies who participated in co-hosting the Francesca's Collection Giveaway! We had an amazing response and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Congratulations to Christy DuBois!
I'll be emailing you the details soon :)

Mad For Plaid Stylish Tuesday + Francesca's Giveaway!

Happy Tuesday Dolls!

I hope everyone is having a fabulous week so far! Yesterday was an exceptionally good Monday for me and those are few and far between! Make sure to join the Stylish Tuesday linkup (Huge shout out to the 100+ girls who linked up last week ... whoop whoop!) and enter to win a $230 Francesca's Collection Gift Card at the bottom of this post!
Y'all I'm seriously mad for plaid right now!
Yesterday June Gloom officially happened. For those of you who aren't Angeleno's, during the month of June Los Angeles is completely gloomy and overcast for the first 1/4 to 1/2 of the day until Mr. Golden Sun decides to come out and play. Some day's it's nice because it actually feels like it might rain, but for the other mornings it's rather dismal.

Although I'm being a complete pessimistic Patty right now, I actually do enjoy the overcast days in a sense because they make our hot summer days tend to be a little cooler than normal, hence the long sleeve shirt!

One of my favorite combo's is a pair of shorts, wedges and a great long sleeve tee to keep you a little warmer on those chilly days; however, this also works for hot Summer days when you're shopping and the AC in the mall is about ready to make you pull our your winter coat! Y'all know what I mean!

Speaking of shorts, if you're like me and have a tiny waist with bigger hips/thighs and booty I seriously recommend checking out American Eagle for shorts. Yes the same American Eagle you shopped at during high school! I've sworn by their shorts for years and have the same pair in literally 8 different colors. I'm a firm believer in buying in bulk when you find something that not only fits, but is a flattering length and look when it comes to shorts!
Top: Target // Shorts: American Eagle // Wedges: Dolce Vita via Macy's // Watch: Michael Kors // Bracelet: Forever 21 // Necklace: Polly's Jewelry // Sunglasses: Gift from a Wedding

What's your Summer go to look?

DIY Vanity + Stylish Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday Dolls!

We're switching things up today and doing a completely different type of post. Normally every Tuesday is strictly fashion related, but I just completed my latest DIY project and can't fight the urge to share it any longer! Let me introduce to you my brand spankin' new vanity desk!
The one and only con of my new place is that I literally have NO bathroom storage. Since I have the guest room, I also have the guest bathroom and I know that whenever someone comes over the last thing they want to see is all of my makeup, perfume and toiletries all over the counter.

This got me thinking about what I could do to make the most of my bedroom space, but still have a place to get ready or at the very least sit and put my shoes on. I immediately went to my trusted Pinterest and typed in "make up vanity." I knew I wanted a desk where I could easily see all of my make up but didn't know exactly how that was going to pan out.

A lot of the photos were ok, but then I hit the gold mine! I can't take credit for this idea since I stole it from Ms Tapioka; however, I did put my own twist on it and I have to say I love how it turned out.

Dr. D obviously was my handyman and did all of the grunt work, but I accessorized, organized and made the vanity truly my own. The main desk shelf has unfortunately been discontinued from IKEA, but this wouldn't be hard to duplicate in the least! All of the containers are from The Container Store and I'll have it labeled below what they're each called.

As soon as the desk was finished I was on a mission to find the perfect stool and mirror. My closet is directly to the left of the vanity and both doors are full length mirrors, but I still wanted to have one directly in front of my face for when I'd be doing my make up. I ended up finding the perfect mirror and adorable paisley stool at Marshalls for a steal!
Mirror: $24.99   Stool: $49.99

I absolutely love getting ready now because everything is so accessible, but I must admit my favorite part is being able to see right through the glass shelf and knowing what make up I'm running low on, or what I have way too much of - I'm guilty of owning 3 compacts and having no idea!
Pardon the cords and white bin - still looking for something nice to hold my make up bags, curling iron, straightener and blow dryer!
I got the cups and beads which hold my make up brushes at the dollar store!
The large bins on the left are two food storage containers which I found in the kitchen section of The Container Store. They're perfect to hold all of my nail polishes, make up remover wipes, face moisturizers, deodorant (yes I wear men's and I'm not ashamed!) and dry shampoo.
Top left: Food Storage Bins - $9.99 each // Top Right: Large Acrylic Trays - $14.99 //  Bottom Right: Flat Lipstick Tray - $6.99 // Bottom Right: Eyeliner Trays -$6.99 // Left Middle: Angled Lipstick Tray: $7.99

The long acrylic trays are pretty standard, but since the opening is less than an inch wide it was hard to find a container that would fit. I really didn't want to pay $15 per tray, but hey it looks great! The smaller trays are wonderful because they have little groves for each individual pencil and eyeliner stick!

IKEA DESK ASSEMBLY
Ikea Shelf (discontinued) -$19.99 // Ikea Lalle Legs - $12.50 // Triangle Shelf Support - $3.99
I put the legs on the front (obviously) which left room for the triangle support shelves. I highly recommend these so you can put more weight on the shelf
Fully mounted to the wall

I'm still SO obsessed with it!

Do you have any DIY projects you're completely in love with?

Can we just talk about how fabulous and chic she looks with her adorable baby bump?! The gold shift dress is great because it not only adds texture with the print, but has some stretch to it to not only keep her comfortable but looking incredibly sexy as well. I love how she paired the waist belt with it and added some fun studded heels! Awesome look love!
