Month In Instagram - September

MII

September came and went y'all! I haven't had a month fly by so fast yet in 2013 but I have a feeling October is going to be the same way. You'll have to pardon my lack of interesting Instagram pictures since I'm sure a majority of them look oddly familiar!

September started out with some college friends coming into town for Labor Day Beer Olympics, followed by a little bit of online shopping. I'm trying to be good since I leave for NYC next week but it was ever so tempting to go crazy and by all sorts of things! I play on a couple different kickball leagues to when the opportunity to play Footgolf came up (instead of a golf club and gold ball you kick a kickball to each hole) I couldn't say no. It was so fun and something different to do.  Then Emmys season hit BIG time, I've already written numerous posts about those so I won't bore you with them again!

Monday Gameday

Friday Gameday
- Scratch that, it's MONDAY Game Day -

My Gamecocks had a close game last Saturday against the University of Central Florida. Luckily we pulled through, but man was it a nail biter! I unfortunately won't be able to make it back to South Carolina for any games this year, but if I could this is exactly what I would wear to a tailgate party.

Every southern girl knows that a good tailgate involves your best girlfriends, country music, ice cold beer and a great outfit. This one isn't only screaming GO COCKS! because of the school colors, but also great for the Southern humidity! The booties finish off the look and give it the country kick it needs!

My First Dry Bar Experience

Sorry my blogging has been so MIA! Between the start of event season, the Emmys this past Sunday and pre-Emmys events every night before I just have not found the time!

As a bystander, I thought the Emmys were just the Awards and a couple of after parties here and there. Now that I have the inside scoop let me tell ya, Emmy parties start A MONTH in advance with the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) throwing parties for all of the nominees, studios throw parties for their shows and casts and beyond. Fast forward to a the week before the big E-day and you have the Creative Arts Ball which honors all of the "behind the scenes" folks. Following those awards and parties you have multiple parties each night leading up to the Emmys. I'm all about a good party, but a girl can only handle so many nights of heels!

- Now back to the blog -

On Emmy Sunday I knew I was going to have to get my hair professionally done. It's no secret I am clueless when it comes to styling and 90% of the time just run a straightener through my hair to get the frizz out! I decided to try out one of the infamous Dry Bar's I've heard so much about and booked an appointment at their Studio City location.

I walked in and was instantly welcomed with a smile and offered a glass of coffee, tea, strawberry or cucumber water. I went with the strawberry H20 and it was divine! I was told to have a seat and relax and my stylist would get me in a bit. I sat and took a look at their "hair menu":

hair 1hairThe idea of a dry bar is pure genius, especially for girls like me who need a little treatment for those special occasions. I ended up choosing the Cosmopolitan version which gave me lots of volume and loose curls. I told my hairstylist, Nona, who was nothing short of fabulous that my hair is naturally straight and tends to NEVER hold a curl. She said she'd do my curls extra tight and they'd last all night long.

My finished "Cosmo" look and complimentary mimosa! They really know how to treat you at the Dry Bar!

I left with a huge smile on my face because I don't think I've ever seen my hair with this much volume in my life. The big curls were still in tact and I was extremely satisfied.

Unfortunately the curls fell immediately after I got home and I ended up busting out the curling iron and spraying on half a can of hairspray to end the night. By the next morning my hair was completely flat and I was heartbroken. I got an email on Monday asking about my experience and I told them I had an amazing time but my hair unfortunately did not last. They're insisting I come back for a complimentary blow out. Now that is customer service!

I can't wait to report on how my next blow out goes!

Emmys Performers Nominee Reception

This past Friday I had the great pleasure of working the Emmys Performer's Nominee Reception in Los Angeles. Emmy nominated stars all gathered at the Pacific Design Center on Melrose Avenue to celebrate their nominations and wins from the Emmys Creative Arts Ball from the week prior.

One of my bosses and I got there right before the red carpet started in order to get celebrity signatures on our 18L bottle of Beaulieu Vineyard wine. This bottle holds 24 bottles of wine and is auctioned off to support the educational foundations for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. My job is so rewarding in the fact I get to do what I love and be involved with some of Hollywood's finest, but the charity aspects and non-profits are truly what make my job substantial.

It was great to see such a wide array of celebrity support including Michelle Dockery, Downton Abbey; Bellamy Young, Scandal; Dot-Marie Jones, Glee; Sarah Paulson & James Cromwell, American Horror Story: Asylum; Scott Bakula, Behind the Candleabra; Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen; Modern Family and many many more.

Dr. D accompanied me to this event and I was happier than ever to be by his side. He's been the best support system on my stressful work days and deals with my hectic schedule like no other. We already have the distance working against us, but he still comes to LA on Friday afternoon's when I have events on Friday night, knowing I won't see him until I get home close to midnight.

He lets me have my lazy Saturday's where I sit on the couch and watch Sex & the City and surprisingly, he enjoys it himself too. Go figure I know! I'm truly blessed to have such an amazing and supportive man by my side.

Momma Comes to LA

After receiving some not so hot news from the doctor, my mom flew cross country to spend the week with me in Los Angeles. Since award season has officially arrived I didn't get to see her nearly as much as I would have liked, but we did get to do some pretty great stuff! Here's a recap of our week:

IMG_0357We started with lunch at The Warehouse in Marina del Rey on SaturdayIMG_0359
We were both decked out in our South Carolina gear of course! GO COCKS! IMG_0398On Sunday we decided to wake up early and hike Beachwood Canyon

Later in the week we met up with my cousin Austin at The Grove for dinner

Mom hadn't seen Austin in ages and since he just moved to LA to work at the Conan O'Brien show it was the perfect opportunity for them to catch up!

Unfortunately the week my mom was here I was completely swamped with work (thank you Emmy awards!) and didn't get to spend nearly the amount of time with her as I wanted to. I won't see her again until Thanksgiving, but work is picking up so I know the time is going to fly by!
